Grandma Day

One of my family traditions is every year on my grandmother’s birthday we have something called a grandma day where we cook all of our favorite foods she used to make, we cook fried chicken, bake cookies, make baked macaroni and cheese, and make empanadas. My favorite thing about this day is when we make the empanadas we make beef and cheese and chicken empanadas, the reason I like making these so much is because when we fry them we have to put them in flour, the smell of the flour gives me a nostalgic feeling from when my grandma used to make them. All of my immediate family come to my house and we all have a good time and eat good food .

Something crazy happened the last time we did this tradition. My mom was making more macaroni and she dropped it. Everyone was so shocked and confused on how she dropped it. My cousin started laughing so hard while I was devastated. The reason why I was so upset is because there were no more macaroni shells or cheese. I had an attitude assuming that there wasn’t going to be any more macaroni until my mom ended up going to the store and buying all the things she needed to make the new pan of macaroni. All of this took a long time but in the end it was worth it. When my mom came home she started making another pan of macaroni but I was still upset because it took longer for us to eat all of the food. The new pan of macaroni and cheese was done before we knew it . It looked way better than the other pan so I was satisfied.

The food was all finished and then we ate all of the food that was made. The empanadas were so good and smelled like dough and seasoned beef. At the end of the party we had a big cake for my grandmother. My mom baked  her famous coconut cake. It had yellow cake as the base and pineapple filling in between pineapple and coconut cake . We sang happy birthday and celebrated for the rest of the night. I enjoyed this day because even though she isn’t here we can still celebrate her birthday in a positive way.
