Winter Sports Arrive at Teaneck High

November is here, and with it, new sports! From November through March, Teaneck athletes will be in full-swing for the new winter season.

Starting October 15th, registration opened for the 2021-2022 winter sports season. Safe from the coming elements of cold winds and frost, these are indoor sports that do not place participants at odds with nature. With a plethora of new options, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Among the most popular sports are girls/boys basketball, fencing and wrestling, the latter of which are combat sports where participants go one-on-one against opponents from rival schools across Bergen County. In fact, Teaneck made waves two years ago when then-senior Erin Emery won the New Jersey girls’ wrestling state tournament, the first to do so! Other available options include swimming, indoor track, winter cheerleading, and bowling.

Hopeful athletes can register on FamilyID by creating an account with their parent’s email and filling out a registration form. They will also need to obtain a COVID-19 and Health History Questionnaire form from the nurse’s office on the first floor. These are necessary due to the unfortunate nature of the pandemic and should be filled out before a physical exam.

If a student does not wish to take a physical at the nurse’s office, they will only need to fill out the COVID-19 Questionnaire form. If they are vaccinated, then they should also take a picture of their vaccination cards and send it to [email protected]. Otherwise, they may be required to follow all testing guidelines during the winter season.

Recent times have been very unpredictable for many students, but sports remain a constant at Teaneck High. The winter season brings new opportunities for some and returning chances for others. Good luck!
