This year the Teaneck girls basketball team are ready to take the next step. The team is coming off an impressive 16-9 record last year but they feel they can do better.

Amanda Howell, one of the star pieces of the team, says that she feels the state championship is absolutely a reasonable goal for the team this year.

“Sometimes we all just close our eyes and imagine having that ring,” Amanda said referring to winning the state championship.

Of course with any team there is going to be a star player and that player for the team right now is point guard, Tamia White. Tamia is coming off averaging 7.5 points and 1.4 assists per game in the 2016-2017 season and she will be one of the main keys to facilitating the offense this upcoming season.

Amanda has very high praise for the freshman coming up this year.

“They’re freshman but they don’t play like freshman, they are great contributors and this is a small team so everyone needs to be able to step up,” she said.

Finally when asked about what the points of emphasis would be from the coach this season, Amanda said flat out “Work hard, and it’s not about any one person on this team, everyone needs to communicate and play together”

Amanda certainly looks focused coming into the season and the team could very well see themselves in the state final competing to bring home a championship for Teaneck.
